What's your funniest Sheltie moment?

Teaching my Shetland Sheepdog, Bella, an 'off switch' was incredibly useful. She’s full of energy and would zoom around if left unchecked. Learning when to settle down has been a game changer for both of us. We started with short training sessions and rewarded her with treats and praise, which really helped. Now, she knows when it’s time to relax, and it makes our time together much more enjoyable. Also, having this 'off switch' is key for a breed that can get overstimulated easily.

Is it just mine, or does your Sheltie try to herd everyone in the family?

Totally! Shelties are super intuitive and pick up on our routines really well. Mine always knows when it's time for me to leave.

Letting my Shetland Sheepdog off-leash is a mixed bag. They have a herding instinct and can chase anything that moves, which can be a challenge. In open parks, I feel comfortable as long as there are no distractions. I trained mine to respond well to recall commands, which has made a big difference. Just keep in mind, they love to run, so it’s crucial to have a secure area where you can trust them to be safe.

I would recommend a Sheltie if you're ready for an active, intelligent companion. They are very trainable, but you need to keep them mentally stimulated or they can get bored quickly. Our Sheltie loves to learn new tricks and can even do agility courses. Just be prepared for their herding instincts, which can lead to them trying to herd kids or other pets!
