I love my Coonhound! They are full of energy and love to chase scents, so I would definitely pick one again. They need plenty of exercise, which can be a challenge if you lead a more sedentary lifestyle. They are super friendly and affectionate, which makes them wonderful family pets.

No. Next question. Ball forever is not the answer. Scent work or a new trick tires mine out faster. A job helps. Even silly stuff like carrying a bag on walks or learning a new cue mid-hike.

My Coonhound once mistook a pile of laundry for a bed. He burrowed in there and looked so comfortable, but when I found him, he had socks on his head. It was a funny sight!

I had a hilarious encounter with my Foxhound, Ruby, when she found an old shoe in the park. She pranced around, acting like she had captured the greatest treasure, ignoring all commands to drop it. People were laughing, thinking she was so proud of her 'find'!

I definitely recommend them! American Foxhounds are such wonderful companions, full of energy and affection. They do require plenty of exercise, so be prepared for that. They’re great with kids and have a friendly disposition.
