My Basenji once figured out how to open the treat cabinet. I thought I had it dog-proof, but he managed to wiggle it open and helped himself during the night. I woke up to a kitchen mess!

Yes, I would recommend a Basenji! They are clean, almost cat-like in their grooming habits. Plus, their bark is more like a yodel, which is just fun to hear.

Basenjis can be a bit aloof, but mine is surprisingly affectionate with my children. He plays well, but we always supervise their interactions just in case.

Let them choose who to greet. Forced greetings made things worse for us. Now we let strangers ignore the dog until the dog is ready. These dogs notice everything. Camera alerts are usually late compared to my dog.
