Q&A
answer · Hanoverian Scent Hound
I can relate to your experience. My Plott Hound acts like every walk is a new case to crack. He just loves to stop and sniff, which can sometimes slow down our pace. I found that carrying a favorite toy helps redirect his focus when it seems he's getting too into the detective work. They are such intelligent dogs, so it's great that you're letting them use their nose. Just be patient and enjoy the extra time spent together!

My Plott Hound is crazy about playing fetch in the yard. He can run like the wind and jumps so high to catch the ball. He also enjoys scent work, which really engages his mind. We often play hide-and-seek with treats around the house and yard, and he has a blast trying to find them. It's amazing how much energy he has, so we regularly give him plenty of outdoor time to keep him happy.

One day, my Plott Hound tracked a scent into the kitchen, only to realize it was my cooking! She sat there right next to the oven, making the funniest faces while waiting for a taste. It’s amazing how they can sniff out food from miles away!

Absolutely, mine pulls away when he gets distracted.

For sure, my Plott Hound is obsessed with following scents. I often find him completely fixated on one, lost in his own little world. It’s funny but also exhausting since I have to keep him moving sometimes. They are so driven when it comes to tracking!

Definitely! Plott Hounds are affectionate and make great family pets. They do need ample exercise and some training, though.

Yes, I’ve tried them, and my Plott Hound enjoys it a lot! It’s a great way for them to use their nose and provides excellent mental stimulation. The classes have helped me connect with my dog on a new level, and I love seeing them thrive.

Once, my Hanoverian Scenthound took off after a scent that led us through the woods for over an hour. I was a bit worried, but honestly, watching him in action was incredible. He eventually found the source, which turned out to be an old, hidden trail where other animals had been. It’s fascinating how their tracking ability works, and it really kept us both entertained! I think he could sniff out a treasure if it were buried nearby. Always be ready for an unexpected journey with these guys!

My Hanoverian loves to steal my socks!

I usually trust my Plott off-leash, especially when we are in open fields or wooded areas. However, I’m cautious around busy streets.
