My Black Russian Terrier is a bit of a guardian when new people come over. At first, she barks and approaches cautiously, assessing who’s entering her territory. Once I reassure her and she sees that it's just a guest, she calms down and becomes very affectionate. It’s definitely a protective trait of the breed, as they tend to be loyal to their family. However, they also have a very playful side and love to engage with visitors once they feel comfortable.

She barks initially but calms down quickly. It's all about her assessing the situation.

She usually goes to check things out but then gets friendly.
