What surprised you the most?

Leonbergers are truly amazing with children. My kids love playing with our Leonberger, and he is so gentle with them. It's like he knows to be careful around tiny humans! I've noticed he will follow them around the yard, always keeping an eye on them. They also seem to enjoy the roughhousing without being too aggressive. Just be sure to teach your kids how to interact with him respectfully.

I usually joke and say my Leonberger could eat a small horse! They have such huge appetites and love their food.

I totally relate to this! My Leonberger loves leaning against me too. He just doesn't realize that his 100+ pounds can be a bit much when he decides to settle in. It’s charming but sometimes I feel like a human pillow.

Would you recommend a Leonberger?

The funniest thing my Leonberger did was try to play fetch with his own reflection in a mirror. He kept barking and running back and forth, thinking another dog was there. They are such goofy giants, and that day he really showed his playful side!

My Leonberger thinks he's still a tiny puppy too! He’s so gentle and playful, and it’s hilarious when he tries to squeeze into small spaces. They really retain that playful nature for life.
