My Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen, Charlie, can sniff for ages. The longest I've timed him was about 20 minutes! He just gets so focused on the scent, it’s like everything else fades away. It's quite amusing to watch because he really puts his whole body into it, with his nose practically glued to the ground. I've read that they have a fantastic sense of smell, which is why they get so absorbed. I guess when they find something interesting, it's a whole adventure for them.
