Q&A
answer · Whippet
I trust my Silken off leash during our morning runs on trails. They've got this unique charm where they love to explore, but I've trained them to come back when called. Their sight hound instincts make them curious about everything, so watch out for distractions like squirrels! Overall, if you're consistent with training, it can work well.

One of the funniest things my Whippet does is chase his own tail, but he only does it when he’s super excited, like when I grab his leash for a walk. He gets this wild look in his eyes, spins in circles, and then goes full speed down the hallway. It cracks me up every time because it’s like he suddenly forgets what he was doing and gets caught up in the moment. Whippets are such joy-filled dogs, and they can be surprisingly goofy!
question · Whippet
My vet suggested using a coat in cooler weather. Do you dress your Whippet for walks?
answer · Whippet
I recommend Silken Windhounds for sure! They have a sweet temperament and make fantastic companions. One thing I found interesting is that they are known for their speed, so they love to run. This means they need some good playtime each day. They also get along well with other dogs which is a plus. Just be prepared for some grooming to keep their coat looking nice.

My Silken Windhound is the same! One moment she's napping on the couch, and the next she's racing through the yard like a rocket. It always catches me off guard.

This is so common with Silken Windhounds! They are such affectionate dogs and love to be close. Mine will curl up beside me regardless of the bed situation. I've learned to embrace it, even if it means losing some space. Silkens also tend to be quite graceful and enjoy lounging about, so I think they appreciate the comfort of being near their humans the most. It's hard not to love that cuddly behavior!
answer · Whippet
No, I don’t trust my Whippet off leash.
answer · Whippet
My Silken Windhound's recall is decent, but it depends on the situation.
answer · Whippet
I think they're a good option, especially if you live in an apartment. Whippets are relatively calm indoors, and they love to lounge around after a good sprint.
answer · Whippet
The biggest challenge I face is their prey drive. They can easily get distracted by small animals, so it's crucial to keep them on a leash during walks.
answer · Whippet
My Whippet is definitely not a fan of cold or rain. He will just sit by the door and refuse to budge. I've invested in a nice doggy raincoat, which helps a bit, but he still prefers snuggling up inside. This breed really loves to be warm and cozy!
