Q&A
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
Definitely! Mine loves to dig holes in the yard, especially after it rains. It’s like he’s searching for treasure. I always find him covered in mud!
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
Never runs out. Ever. Ball forever is not the answer. Scent work or a new trick tires mine out faster.

No.

Yes, definitely! My Coonhound once ignored me for a good five minutes while sniffing a spot on the ground. I could be waving treats in front of his nose, but nothing would snap him back. They really do have an incredible sense of smell, and sometimes it feels like nothing else matters to them but that one interesting scent.

I would have built a stronger routine from day one. American Leopard Hounds can become bored quickly, so having a structure would have prevented some of the chaos early on.

My Mountain Cur absolutely loves going for hikes! She has so much energy and enjoys exploring the trails with me. It's great exercise for both of us, and she gets to sniff all sorts of things. Besides hiking, she also loves to play fetch in the backyard. It's fun to watch her chase the ball and show off her speed.
question · Black And Tan Coonhound
We planned a relaxing hike... my Mountain Cur turned it into a full-on expedition 😂 What's the funniest outdoor adventure you've had together?
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
Definitely try a game of hide and seek with treats or toys. Bluetick Coonhounds are natural scent trackers, so using their nose will engage them mentally and physically. You can hide a treat in a room and let them sniff it out. They can get pretty focused and will wear themselves out in a fun way. It’s not just exercise, it’s also stimulating for their hunting instincts. You might be surprised at how quickly they catch on!

I usually let my Treeing Walker off leash at the park, but only in safe areas. They have a strong hunting instinct, so I keep a close watch to ensure they don’t wander off too far.
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
Absolutely! They have so much character.

I highly recommend getting a Mountain Cur if you have an active lifestyle. They are incredibly energetic and love to work, making them great companions for outdoor activities like hiking or hunting. One interesting quirk is their tendency to 'talk' with a unique range of vocalizations, from barks to howls. Socialization is key for them, as they can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly with proper introductions. Overall, they are loyal and protective, really great family dogs when trained well.
