My Leopard Hound is fantastic around kids! She has a gentle disposition and loves to play, but she also knows when to be calm and patient. They’re great family dogs.

What's the funniest thing your Mountain Cur has ever done?

Looking back, I think I would have done more socialization with my American Leopard Hound. These dogs can be a bit aloof with strangers, and getting them used to different environments could have improved their confidence. I also wish I had started agility training sooner, as they’re very agile and love to jump around. It could have helped channel their energy in a fun way. Overall, I feel like a little more preparation could have made a big difference.

I highly recommend nose work classes! My Treeing Tennessee Brindle took to it like a duck to water. It gives them a great outlet for their natural hunting instincts while also providing mental stimulation. Plus, it's a fantastic bonding experience, and I've seen such improvements in his focus and confidence.

I find that it varies. My Treeing Walker is great in familiar areas but can get sidetracked when we're out on walks. We practice recall often, especially in areas with lots of smells because they are always on the hunt.

Absolutely! My Cur seems to thrive on exercise. After our hikes, he just lies down for a bit and then he’s back to being playful.

My Redbone has a knack for mischief, but the funniest moment was when I found him sitting in the bathtub looking confused. He must have thought it was his personal hunting ground! He didn’t want to get out either. He just stared at me like he was waiting for a bath, which was definitely not happening. Sometimes, I think he just enjoys making me laugh with his antics. He is such a character.
