Q&A
answer · Whippet
Definitely! My Whippet has days when he just wants to sleep all day and then other days where he runs around like crazy.
answer · Whippet
Yes, my Silken does well off leash; just needs some training first.
answer · Whippet
I do put a coat on my Whippet for walks in cold weather. They really feel the cold more than other breeds since they have very short hair.
question · Whippet
Would you recommend a Silken Windhound?
answer · Whippet
Totally! It's like they have a turbo mode.

Training can be tricky too. They respond better to positive reinforcement but can be quite stubborn at times.

Mine usually comes back when called, especially if there's a treat involved. Sighthounds can be unpredictable, so it's important to practice often. They have a strong chase instinct, which can make off-leash training a bit tricky. Just keep them engaged and reward good behavior.

You're not alone! Mine does the same thing. On rainy days, he seems to think a warm spot on the couch is far more appealing than going outside. I find it funny, but sometimes we do have to brave the weather for a quick potty break. If it’s really unpleasant out, I just let him stay inside where it’s warm.

Trusting a Whippet off leash can really depend on their individual temperament and training. Mine is generally reliable, but I've had some close calls. Whippets are notorious for their speed and prey drive, so they may take off if they spot something interesting. I recommend starting in a secure area and gradually introducing them to more freedom as they prove they can listen. Consistent recall practice is vital. Overall, I’d say cautious optimism is key.
question · Whippet
I bought a fancy orthopedic dog bed... my Silken Windhound still prefers stretching out across my side of the bed 😂 Anyone else?
answer · Whippet
For a first-time owner, a Whippet is a solid choice. They're friendly and tend to get along well with kids and other pets.
