Q&A
answer · Whippet
My Whippet loves to sneak in a quick zoomie when I'm least expecting it!

I must admit, I have mixed feelings about letting my Silken off leash in open spaces. They are such speedy little dogs, and while I love their energy, I worry they might dart after something they see. It's crucial to have a reliable recall, which I worked hard on. If we’re in an enclosed area or at the park during quiet times, I feel comfortable letting them roam a bit. Just keep an eye on them, as they can be quite the escape artists.
question · Whippet
My Whippet spent six hours curled up under a blanket... then turned into the fastest dog in the park 😂 Anyone else's Whippet have two completely different personalities?
answer · Whippet
Definitely use a coat for your Whippet in cooler weather. Mine used to shiver on our walks until I got a jacket for him. Whippets can be quite sensitive to temperature changes because of their low body fat. A soft, lightweight coat keeps him warm without restricting movement.

I absolutely recommend a Silken Windhound! They are incredibly affectionate and tend to bond closely with their families. These dogs have a gentle demeanor, making them great with kids and other pets. I love how they have a unique, graceful way of moving, which is quite striking. They might have a bit of a chase instinct due to their sighthound heritage, but with proper training, they can be well-disciplined. Their grooming needs are minimal, so that's a bonus too. Just make sure to give them plenty of exercise to keep them happy and healthy!

Is it just mine, or does your Silken switch from couch potato to race car in about two seconds?
answer · Whippet
For me, the hardest part is managing their exercise needs. Whippets have bursts of energy and love to sprint, but they also enjoy lounging around. It can be tough to find the right balance, especially if you live in an apartment. Also, they can be a bit aloof, so forming a strong bond might take time. Once you do, though, they are the sweetest companions.

Same here, my Silken Windhound has no interest in her fancy bed. She just wants to be wherever I am.
question · Whippet
My trainer said recall is everything with sighthounds. How reliable is yours?
question · Whippet
Do you trust your Whippet off leash?
question · Whippet
Would you recommend a Whippet to first-time owners?
answer · Whippet
Not just yours! Mine avoids going out in bad weather as well. They’re such delicate creatures when it comes to the cold, and it seems like they really enjoy their comfort indoors. Sometimes, if it’s just too cold or rainy, I’ll take him out quickly just to do his business, then back inside he goes!
