I would say choose carefully. Akitas are lovely but can be very independent and somewhat challenging for novice owners. They require experienced handling, especially in social situations. Their strong personality can be overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with dog behavior. If you’re up for the challenge and have the commitment, they can make incredible companions.

I wouldn’t recommend an Akita for a first-time dog owner.

Akitas are loyal and protective, but they can also be strong-willed. Novice owners might find their stubbornness a bit much. If someone is committed to training and socializing them well, they can be a great fit.
