Q&A
answer · Bergamasco Shepherd Dog
My Bergamasco is a bit shy and prefers to observe newcomers before making their approach. It’s interesting to see them size up the situation before deciding to say hi.

I highly recommend Bergamasco Sheepdogs for families. They are incredibly loyal and form strong bonds with their people. Their unique coat, which has these distinctive mats, not only looks amazing but serves to insulate them against the elements. They're also known to be quite gentle with children, making them great playmates. Socialization is key, as they can be reserved with strangers, but with proper introduction, they warm up nicely. I've found that they are both protective and loving, which is a wonderful combination.

For my Bergamasco, I brush him lightly about once a week. I also take him to a professional groomer every few months. This keeps his coat in check without too much hassle.

The funniest thing my Bergamasco ever did was try to catch a squirrel and ended up tumbling down a small hill. He looked so surprised when he rolled to the bottom! It was a hilarious sight to see him shake it off and run back up, all excited.

Little and often works better than one marathon session. Leave-in spray midweek saved me. Full bath day is when the coat actually looks silky.

The biggest surprise was how protective he is. He really takes his role as a family guardian seriously, even if he looks like a shaggy teddy bear.
