answer · American Foxhound
They can be a great choice if you have an active lifestyle. Just be prepared for their hunting instincts. Their loyalty and affection can be amazing.

I trust my Coonhound around familiar areas, but I won't take any chances in new places. They can follow scents for miles! It’s a thrill to watch them work, but I prefer having control when we are out and about.
answer · American Foxhound
They are very lovable and great with kids. Just make sure to give them enough activity.

I’ve had success with agility training. Foxhounds are naturally curious and love to explore, so setting up an obstacle course in the yard keeps them occupied. They enjoy the challenge, and it burns off a lot of energy. Plus, it’s great for bonding time, and I can see them becoming more confident with each session.

One of the funniest moments with my Coonhound happened when he tried to chase after a squirrel. He ended up tumbling into a bush instead, and when he emerged, he looked so confused. The squirrel just sat there watching!

My American Foxhound, Max, once saw a squirrel and took off like a rocket. I was holding on for dear life, trying to keep up. Eventually, he stopped when he realized the squirrel was too quick!

Oh, I totally relate to that! My Coonhound can sniff out a trail from a mile away. It’s like he has a sixth sense for interesting scents. I planned a quick walk once and ended up being out for an hour because he was so determined to follow a scent. It can be frustrating, but it’s also hilarious watching him get so excited. Just be prepared for those longer outings if you own one!

Nose work is fantastic for this breed! My Coonhound has a natural talent for it, and it really helps satisfy their instinct to track scents. Plus, it's a lot of fun to watch them work!

The biggest challenge I face is their stubbornness. My American English Coonhound is smart but often decides when he wants to listen.
