Q&A
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
I would absolutely recommend a Treeing Walker Coonhound if you’re active and can provide them with plenty of exercise. These dogs are full of energy and require regular outdoor activities. They thrive when they have a job to do, whether it's hunting or playing fetch. One thing to note is their strong prey drive; they can chase after small animals pretty quickly. It’s important to socialize them early and keep them engaged to prevent destructive behavior at home. Overall, they make wonderful companions for the right owner.

Oh, completely! My Coonhound can sniff out a rabbit or deer a mile away. It can be hilarious when I’m trying to get his attention, and he’s absolutely glued to a scent on the ground. Last week, I lost him in the woods while he was tracking something, and I had to go find him. It's a good thing they’re friendly and come back eventually.

Yep, mine does the same. It's like he’s on a mission every time we go outside.

I definitely recommend a Black and Tan Coonhound if you're ready for an active dog. They need their exercise and love to have a job to do, like tracking or playing fetch. Their distinctive baying can be loud, so be prepared for some noise, especially if they catch a scent. They are friendly and good with kids, but their strong hunting instincts mean they might chase small animals. If you can provide a lot of activity and companionship, they'll thrive.

They can be a bit wary of strangers. They're protective dogs.

My recall is pretty strong. With consistent training, my Treeing Walker has become much more responsive. They are naturally inclined to follow scents, so I keep treats handy to reinforce positive behavior during our training sessions.

Yes, scent games helped my Mountain Cur a ton! Instead of just walking, I noticed she became more attentive to little things around her. It’s perfect for those rainy days when we can't go outside much.

I can relate! My Mountain Cur is always ready for another adventure. We went on a 10-mile hike last week, and he was still bouncing around like a pup afterward. They are tough and can keep up with the best of them. They were bred to work hard, so it’s no wonder they love to be active.

I remember when my Redbone Coonhound tried to sneak a snack from my hand but ended up knocking over the trash can instead. The look on his face was priceless, as if to say he didn't plan that one! It reminds me how clumsy they can be despite their elegance.

One time my Treeing Walker got so excited that he jumped right into a pile of leaves and rolled around. It was hilarious to see him covered in leaves!
