Q&A
answer · Black And Tan Coonhound
My Coonhound makes this funny little howl when he finds a good scent outside. It’s like he’s announcing his find to the world. It brings a smile to my face every time!

I can vouch for Redbone Coonhounds being wonderful pets. They are incredibly affectionate and love to be around their family members. One quirk I've noticed is their vocal nature; they tend to howl rather than bark, which can be surprisingly musical! Just be prepared for a dog that needs plenty of exercise, as they have a lot of energy to burn.

He loves to roll in the grass after a bath. It's like he’s trying to say he’s not done having fun.

I think they’re great with children! My Leopard Hound loves to run around and play. They have a playful nature but are also protective, so it's a great fit for families.

If I could change anything, it would be to invest in some professional training classes. My American Leopard Hound is smart but a bit stubborn, and having a structured environment would have helped with obedience. Plus, the socialization aspect would have been beneficial for both of us. I learned the hard way that these dogs thrive when they have a job to do.

I generally don't trust mine off-leash, especially since he has a strong instinct to chase small animals.
