Off-leash with a Karelian Bear Dog can be tricky. They have a strong prey drive due to their hunting background. I usually let mine off-leash in enclosed areas where I know he can't escape. If you do let them off-leash, make sure they are well trained and have a solid recall.

No, off-leash isn’t safe.

I would recommend caution with off-leash activities. Karelian Bear Dogs are independent thinkers and can sometimes ignore commands, especially when they see something interesting. However, if you have a secure area and a reliable recall, it can be a great way for them to burn off energy. Just be prepared for the possibility of them wandering off if they catch a scent!

I've found that letting my Karelian off-leash is possible, but only in controlled environments. They’re smart and can get distracted easily. It’s worth investing time in training first.
