My trainer told me to stop repeating commands because I'm accidentally teaching him to ignore me. Has anyone else heard that?

Yes, I've heard that too. It's true for many dogs.

My trainer advised the same. It’s helped a lot.

Repeating commands can definitely confuse your Norwegian Elkhound. They are very smart and can pick up cues quickly, but if they notice they aren't rewarded for obeying, they might start ignoring you. It's best to give a command once, then wait for them to respond. Consistency is key, and rewarding them when they listen strengthens the bond.

I found that if I’m clear with commands and only repeat them if needed, my dog responds better. Norwegian Elkhounds can be a bit independent, so rewarding good behavior is crucial.
