Q&A
question · Rhodesian Ridgeback
Is it just mine, or does your Ridgeback pretend not to hear you when they're busy?
question · Rhodesian Ridgeback
My trainer told me to stop repeating commands because my dog already heard me the first time. Anyone else?
answer · Rhodesian Ridgeback
I wouldn't recommend a Ridgeback to first-time owners. They need a confident handler due to their independent nature.
question · Rhodesian Ridgeback
What's the funniest thing your Ridgeback does?
answer · Rhodesian Ridgeback
I totally get you, Charlotte. My Ridgeback also prefers being near me, even if I’ve got the biggest bed in the house. It's a common trait for Ridgebacks; they form really strong bonds with their owners and often want to be part of everything. I think they just feel secure when they're close to us. Plus, it makes them feel included in the family vibe.

I do trust my Ridgeback off-leash, but it took consistent training to get there. Ridgebacks are incredibly loyal and typically come back when called, but they also have a strong prey drive. This means you have to be cautious around smaller animals. I always recommend practicing in safe, enclosed areas first, start with long walks to build their reliability. Once you’re confident, you can enjoy some great off-leash adventures!
