Q&A
answer · American Foxhound
Yes, I would recommend this breed. They are friendly and playful but do need an owner who can dedicate time to exercise.
answer · American Foxhound
Definitely! My Foxhound tunes everything out when he’s on a scent. I've seen him completely miss squirrels running by.

I find that swimming is another great way to tire out our Foxhound. They love the water and will swim until they are completely worn out. If there's a local lake or pool that allows dogs, it's worth checking out. It’s a fantastic way to exercise them without putting too much strain on their joints.
answer · American Foxhound
I would recommend them for sure. They are friendly and make great family pets.

What's one thing nobody warned you about?
answer · American Foxhound
It's okay!
answer · American Foxhound
Absolutely, I would choose an American English Coonhound again.

Mine too, every single time. Ours acts like every small win deserves a parade. Honestly these moments are why I post on id4.pet. Real dogs, real personalities. Still figuring it out like everyone else, Samantha.
answer · American Foxhound
I guess one of the biggest challenges is their strong prey drive. If anything catches their attention, it’s hard to redirect them back. It requires constant vigilance.
answer · American Foxhound
Oh, I feel that! My American Foxhound has a mind of its own when it comes to training. They can be easily distracted and sometimes just don’t listen.
question · American Foxhound
How does your Coonhound do around children?
answer · American Foxhound
One thing that surprised me was their energy level. These dogs are super active, needing lots of exercise to stay happy and healthy. If you don't keep them busy, they'll find ways to entertain themselves, which can lead to mischief.
answer · American Foxhound
Definitely worth trying! My American English Coonhound loves nose work.
