Absolutely! My Drever has a nose for everything, and it often wins over my calls. They are natural scent hounds, so their focus can be all-consuming. Sometimes I think my dog has selective hearing!

Yep, that's just the Drever way. They get so absorbed in sniffing, it can take a while for them to realize you're calling. I've learned to just let them explore a bit before expecting them to come back.
