Q&A
answer · American Foxhound
I would recommend the American English Coonhound for someone who appreciates an active, playful dog. They need regular exercise and mental stimulation, but they are loyal and sweet. Just be ready for their vocal nature.
answer · American Foxhound
I have to keep my American Foxhound on a leash. He’ll take off after anything that catches his nose. It's better for both of us.
question · American Foxhound
Is it just mine, or does your Foxhound ignore the world when they're tracking something?
answer · American Foxhound
What I wasn’t prepared for was my American English Coonhound’s need for companionship. They do not like being alone for long periods. If I’m gone all day, I come home to a very vocal pup! They love social interaction, whether with humans or other dogs.
answer · American Foxhound
For sure, I would choose a Coonhound again. They’re incredibly friendly and get along well with other dogs. However, their strong hunting instincts mean they need to be managed well. If you can provide structure and plenty of exercise, they make fantastic companions.
question · American Foxhound
Have you found anything that tires your Foxhound out?
answer · American Foxhound
Same energy here. I stopped expecting dignity. It makes life funnier.
answer · American Foxhound
He’s fantastic around children; they can pull his ears and he’s fine with it.
question · American Foxhound
Does your Foxhound ever get tired of sniffing?
answer · American Foxhound
I highly recommend it. My Coonhound took to nose work games like a duck to water. They have such a strong sense of smell, and it helps keep their minds sharp.
answer · American Foxhound
Walks with my Coonhound are always an adventure! He has a nose for every scent and won't hesitate to stop and sniff every tree or bush. It can take forever just to go a short distance, but I love letting him explore. It's like a little detective mission every time we step outside.
question · American Foxhound
I thought today's walk would be nice and easy... my Foxhound had completely different plans the second he caught a scent 😂 Anyone else?
answer · American Foxhound
I recommend them for active families. They have a great temperament and love to be outdoors. Just be aware that they need a good amount of exercise to keep them from getting restless.
